Gate by Ghast // Tech
With Gate, Ghast // Tech delivers a release that feels less like a conventional album and more like an invitation to cross an invisible threshold. Released on Spheredelic this July, the album consists of four individual compositions, accompanied by a fifth piece that seamlessly merges all four into one continuous sonic journey.
Built from immersive sound collages, Gate explores the idea of passing through a portal into another dimension. The deliberate choice to present the recordings entirely in mono is an artistic statement rather than a technical limitation. Like walking through a long corridor, the focused sound field guides the listener deeper into an unfamiliar acoustic space where perception begins to shift.
Founded in 2014 by Chris Lacroix, Ghast // Tech emerged from a desire to leave the computer screen behind and reconnect with electronic instruments on a more immediate and tactile level. The project embraces experimentation above structure, favouring spontaneous long-form recordings over rehearsed compositions and allowing sounds to evolve freely beyond the confines of a traditional grid.
Drawing from wavetable synthesizers, granular processors, experimental oscillators and extensive Eurorack processing, Ghast // Tech creates a sound world that is dark, immersive and deeply atmospheric. Hovering somewhere between drone, ambient and experimental electronics, the music can feel ominous and mysterious while simultaneously offering moments of unexpected calm and introspection.
Gate is an invitation to slow down, listen closely and step through an invisible doorway into a space where sound becomes environment. It is another compelling chapter in the evolving sonic universe of Ghast // Tech and a fitting addition to the Spheredelic catalogue.
